Warning over fraudulent "residency" services company

Thursday 21 November 2024

Jersey's financial services watchdog has issued a warning about a scam company falsely claiming to be based in the island while promoting "residency and citizenship services".

The Jersey Financial Services Commission is advising the public not to deal with 'Waikan Consulting', which it said has displayed "warning signs of being set up for fraudulent purposes".

The JFSC explained that the "scam entity" is promoting "residency and citizenship services" through its website and falsely purporting to be based in Jersey with the trading name of VM Jersey Limited.

It claims to be trading from 45 Esplanade, St Helier, JE2 3QB, Jersey, Channel Islands, United Kingdom.

But the JFSC has stated that Waikan Consulting and its website "are not connected in any way to the former Jersey registered company VM Jersey Limited".

A statement from the financial services watchdog said: "The scam entity is not a registered company or trading name in Jersey, nor does it have a registered address in Jersey.

"From documentation held by the JFSC, the scam entity and website display warning signs of being set up for fraudulent purposes."

Islanders who might have questions regarding the scam are being asked to contact the JFSC’s enforcement team.
