The JSPCA is driving into the future with the arrival of its first ever electric ambulance.
The set of electric wheels that will be used is a Nissan E-NV200, which was deemed suitable for loading crates into the back as well as other equipment for the calls the charity receives.
The ambulance is dedicated to Captain William Anderton, the late husband of Jean Anderson, the woman who gave the considerable donation that made purchasing it possible.

The new vehicle comes as part of a number of initiatives to become more eco-friendly from the charity. Other projects include changing pet cremation processes to save on fuel, minimising paper use and introducing bat and bird boxes to their wooded area at their St Saviour’s site.
They are also introducing of trees and Pollinator Patch at First Tower’s Pet Cemetery.
The announcement comes as part of a brand new chapter for the charity - earlier this month, it paid off its £500,000 loan to the Government three months early, after its now-jailed former-CEO brought the charity to near ruin by embezzling money.
Anel Crowther, Front of House Manager at the JSPCA Animals’ Shelter said: “Our day vehicle attends on average just short of 2,500 calls a year, so this van is a vital piece of equipment for the services we provide.
“We are so excited to have our new electric ambulance, not only for the benefit of the environment but also as it’s such a great feeling that someone values the work we do in the Island enough to give us such a generous donation.”

Michelle Parker, PR, Media and Fundraising Manager added: “We were overwhelmed by this donation from Mrs Jean Anderton and were very keen to dedicate this electric ambulance to her late husband, Captain William Alex Anderton.
“We are so grateful to everyone who strives to help us make a difference to the lives of animals in Jersey. This new ambulance will not only make a difference to animals in our care, but also to the environment. It’s a wonderful legacy for Captain Anderton.”
Freelance CI Executive Michal Prozorowski said: “Freelance CI is very happy to be supplying the Nissan E-NV200 van to the JSPCA. It’s such a great organisation and Jersey is very lucky to have it.
“We will also be donating a ramp for them to use when transporting larger dogs so they won’t need to lift them into the van.”
