Kenny’s Gig is returning on 10 March with 40 young musicians playing at St. James Centre in memory of Ernie Mallett’s son, Kenny.
Kenny, who suffered from a heart condition, sadly passed away several years ago. He was good friends with many of the young people who rehearsed at Sounds Workshop, now known as Youth Arts Jersey - current members have now decided to put on Kenny’s Gig 2018 along with his father.
Having taught many young people to play drums, Ernie Mallet is well-known among young musicians.
Kenny's Gig will have the same format as last year with approximately 40 young musicians taking to the stage at St. James Centre.
The "fabulous evening of youth music" will include a large variety of genres to suit all musical ears. From solo acoustic acts to rock bands, there will certainly be something to appeal to everyone’s musical taste. Performers will include up and coming rock/indie band ‘Mezra’ (pictured), young acoustic artist Kacey Hacquoil, the Youth Arts Jersey Ukulele Club and the newly formed Youth Arts Jersey Choir to name a few.
From the musicians, sound and lighting crew to the front of house, the entire event has been organised, and will be managed, by the young members of the Youth Arts Jersey club.
The evening will also include a raffle with prizes including El Tico Vouchers, M&S biscuits and chocolates among others.
Tickets for the event are £5 and are on sale now from St. James Centre. All money raised will be divided between Wessex Heartbeat and Youth Arts Jersey, Mr Mallett’s chosen charities.
If you would like to reserve a ticket, you can email Senior Youth Worker Carmel Butel here or call 280506. More information on Kenny’s Gig is available on Youth Arts Jersey Facebook page.
