Jersey's oldest building has received a national award for its "outstanding experiences and customer service".

La Hougue Bie, a Neolithic site and museum in Grouville, has gained a Gold Accolade from VisitEngland – an organisation that provides information and support to visitors while also ensuring the quality of various tourist attractions.

Hilary Grimes, Jersey Heritage’s Head of Visitor Services, said: “We are very proud of all of our staff and volunteers whose hard work and commitment helped La Hougue Bie achieve the VisitEngland Gold Accolade.”

She explained: “This national tourism award is testament to the all-round high standards achieved at this special visitor site, which includes an ancient passage grave, replica Neolithic Longhouse, an exhibition about the record-breaking Celtic coin hoard and a lovely café run for us by Beresford Street Kitchen.”

Andrew Stokes, Director of VisitEngland, said: “These accolades are a testament to the outstanding experiences and customer service that attractions in England give visitors.

"They also recognise different aspects of the visitor experience with attractions who really go the extra mile.“

The Accolade Awards celebrate excellence within the visitor attraction sector and highlight businesses participating in their Quality Scheme that deliver outstanding visitor experiences.

The winners of the Visitor Attraction Accolades for 2022-2023 were based on the scores they obtained following their annual VisitEngland Visitor Attraction Quality Scheme assessment.

The Yard at the Jersey Museum has also secured the VisitEngland Quality Food & Drink Accolade.
