A 20-year-old man who was caught with cannabis twice in three days has been handed an £800 fine.
Alfie Jack Atterbury was caught by Police with cannabis on 18 March – and then caught with the drug again on 20 March.
The Magistrate's Court heard this week that Atterbury was already on probation and is completing a community service order imposed in February for the importation of cannabis.
Advocate David Steenson, defending, pointed out that the drugs were for Atterbury's personal use. He said: "He doesn't drink. He says he uses it to relax after a day at work."
He also said Atterbury had only been carrying small quantities and argued: "He should be sentenced for stupidity, but not for the amounts of cannabis.
"And given the amounts involved, the offence, however stupid it was, does not elevate his sentence to greater than a fine."
Assistant Magistrate Peter Harris imposed an £800 fine and allowed him to pay it at the rate of £50 per week.
