“A lesson has been learnt"

Wednesday 14 August 2024

A 34-year-old man has learnt his lesson after an attempt to steal cables from his company while parking his van in front of CCTV cameras landed him in court, according to his lawyer.

Nelio Duarte Correia Loureto, who committed the theft on 29 April, appeared in the Magistrate's Court this week.

The Court heard that the man had no previous convictions prior to the offence.

Advocate Chris Baglin, who was defending him, told the Magistrate's Court: “A lesson has been learnt.”

Relief Magistrate Sarah Fitz sentenced him to 70 hours of community service.

She also fined Loureto £1,500 for the theft and an additional £410 for the damage caused, totalling £1,910.

She allowed him to pay this back at a rate of £50 per week.
