A-levels: The results are in

Thursday 17 August 2017

After much anticipation, hundreds of students have received their A-level and BTEC Diploma results this morning.

The overall pass rate for Jersey’s A-level results published today is 99.5%, which is in line with 2016, and above the 97.9% pass rate for England.

The results so far are as follows (in alphabetical order):

  • Beaulieu School: 100% pass rate with 85% of all A2 A-level and BTEC examinations taken awarded A* to C grades.
  • De La Salle College: 12% achieved A* or A grades with 64% awarded A* to C.
  • Highlands College: 95% pass rate amongst those who studied BTEC Level 3 diplomas (equivalent to three A-levels).
  • Jersey College for Girls: 100% pass rate with 90% awarded A* to C grades.
  • Victoria College: 40% of all grades achieved were A* or A with nearly 3 in 4 exams taken achieving A*, A or B grade.

Express has reached out to Hautlieu School who have said that they are still collating their results, although the Headmaster Nick Falle issued the following statement: "I am delighted and so proud of our students who have excelled in so many areas across their A-Levels and the International Baccalaureate Diploma. The excellent results achieved are a just reward for their hard work and shows what is possible with grit and determination."

The percentage of entries resulting in grades, A*, A and B at 56.3% is higher than results for 2016 in Jersey and England, at 52.9%. This year, a total of 498 Jersey pupils were entered for 1347 A-level examinations.

The Education Department has extended its congratulations to this cohort whose qualifications reflect the latest phase of reforms which have cut down on coursework and "decoupled" AS-levels from the final A-level result. Results for 13 subjects this year, including history, English, psychology, physics, chemistry and biology, are solely the result of final examinations taken in the summer.

Education Minister Deputy Rod Bryans said: Well done to everyone who got their A-Level results today after two years of hard work. I am sure they would all like to join me in thanking the teachers and parents who have encouraged and supported them along the way. Good luck to all students with their next steps, whether that is into work or further study.”

School leavers planning on going to university have been reminded by Student Finance that once they have a definite offer and have applied for a student grant, they should complete the online HE7 form.

The link to this online form will have been sent directly to the students after their grant application was received, but if students don’t have the link they should email the Student Finance office.
