The Education Minister was full of praise for Jersey students today, as they returned to their schools and colleges to collect their A-level results.

Express has been sharing each school's results as they roll in...

A total of 546 Jersey pupils undertook 1,430 A Level examinations.

The overall pass rate for Jersey’s A Level results was 96.4%, slightly below England’s pass rate of 97.1%. 25.5% of all A Levels taken by Jersey students were at A*-A, compared to 27.6% in England.

However, for A*-C passes, Jersey students achieved 78.0% compared to 76.0% in England.

Jersey College for Girls

JCG was first to declare its results this morning, with 37% of its students' grades at A*-A, and 93% A*-C.

There was a 100% pass rate across all subjects.

Principal Carl Howarth said the school was "incredibly proud" and that the grades spoke of the students' "hard work", as well as the "dedication of our teaching staff, and the unwavering support of their families".

"These results are not just numbers; they represent the countless hours of study, the overcoming of challenges, and academic growth of our students,” he added.

Beaulieu

34% of all grades were A*-A, and 55% of all grades A*-B. 58% of students achieved at least one grade at A* or A.

The school also said 98% of students seeking Higher Education have been accepted by either their first or second choice of university.

"I would like to extend my deepest thanks to our dedicated staff, whose commitment to our students' education has been unwavering, to the families whose support and encouragement have been invaluable, and to the entire Beaulieu community for fostering an environment where each student can thrive," said new Headmaster Matthew Burke.

"Today, we celebrate the success of each individual, knowing that they have also left an indelible legacy on our school community."

Hautlieu

Nearly 70% of grades achieved were A*-C.

Kate Blackhall, Interim Headteacher, said today: "We are delighted to celebrate the successes of the Hautlieu A Level class of 2024 who have worked so hard to achieve their very best in their studies...  The care of parents and teachers in supporting our students has been very much appreciated throughout their time with us.

"As our students leave us to embark on further education and employment across the world we wish them every success for the future."

Victoria College

Victoria College's results saw an increase on last year's A*-A grades to 39.3%, according to the school, while the A*-B rate also saw an increase to 71%.

The school also said that two students holding Oxbridge offers (Casper and Philip, pictured above with their headteacher) confirmed them with straight A*s, while 95% of students seeking higher education confirmed their first or reserve choice.

Headteacher Dr Gareth Hughes thanked students, parents and staff for their efforts, commenting: "Having known many of these students for six years, I am so proud to see them complete their journey at Victoria College and receive their superb grades today.

"These results are the reflection of a significant amount of hard work and endeavour; many of the students overcame personal challenges, showing perseverance and resilience, to emerge with qualifications that will pave the way for the rest of their lives."

De La Salle

De La Salle's Head of College, Jason Turner, said he found it "hard to describe my delight with the perforamance of the boys this year".

For the A*-C bracket, Mr Turner said its overall figure of 85% was the best it have ever achieved – "although we did get close to that figure in 2007 with 84%," he noted. The school also matched its 2023 figures for percentage in the A*-A bracket, which were the best achieved prior to covid.

"We exceeded our minimum expected levels in all measurements, which demonstrates the significant value added we provide for our boys. I would like to congratulate all the boys who achieved their personal best and many of whom exceeded them," Mr Turner said.

"I am proud of all at De La Salle for rising so admirably to the challenges faced. Every student who did his best should be celebrating today."

Highlands College

97% of Highlands students passed their professional and technical qualifications at the same advanced level as A Levels, while 94% have secured employment or enrolled upon further higher-level training. More than half of these will be studying degrees, the Government said.

Students who took the International Baccalaureate (IB) at Hautlieu School this year have achieved an 82% pass rate, higher than worldwide pass rate of 80%.

Praise from the Education Minister

Education Minister Rob Ward today congratulated all students picking up their results on their hard work.

“Congratulations to all the students receiving their A Level and Level 3 results today. This moment marks the culmination of a lot of hard work, dedication, and persistence. I would encourage you all to feel proud of your own individual results and wish you all the best of luck in the future," he said.

“I’d also like to thank the parents, guardians, teachers, and school staff. Your constant support, encouragement, and dedication have been vital in guiding students to this point. Your commitment to their success is very much appreciated.”
