Homegrown artists sought for summer art show

Whether painter, sketcher, architect or sculptor... Local talents are being sought to fill the walls of a local gallery this summer.

The call for artists comes from CCA Galleries International, which is on the hunt for visual artists to take part in its fourth Summer Exhibition.

All visual art forms are welcome, including original prints, paintings, drawings, architecture, sculpture, film and photography, and artists have until 11 March to submit images of their work to the gallery.

Launched in 2017, the Summer Exhibition is based on the Royal Academy model, where every summer exhibits are selected by a panel of professional artists and shown in a group selling exhibition.

If an artist’s work is selected for the second stage, they will be asked to submit actual work for the final judging process on Monday 11 May.

If their work is chosen, it will then be exhibited in the gallery from 19 June and 29 July.

Local artists as well as those with links to the island who may be working elsewhere or from the other Channel Islands are welcome to apply.

All work shown in the exhibition will be up for sale. It will be hung and curated by CCA Galleries who will also offer advice on framing and pricing to successful applicants if needed.

Last year, over £21,000 of Jersey art was sold. The work generally sells to collectors from Ireland, Scotland, Germany and the UK as well as to enthusiastic locals.

“Exhibiting at a prestigious, international gallery and being selected for the Jersey Summer Exhibition has helped launch the careers of promising Jersey artists, as well as enforcing that of those already established,” Gallery Director Sasha Gibb said.

All exhibitors at the Jersey Summer Exhibition are eligible for the Jersey Summer Prize. Last year’s winner was local ceramicist Lindsay Rutter, who is currently working on a new body of work to exhibit with CCA early next year.

 Landscapes that have been selected for the Jersey Summer Exhibition are eligible for the Signtech RURAL Jersey Landscape Award with a cash prize of £500.
