Glasto gig is 'insane' says local singer-songwriter

Thursday 09 June 2016

A Jersey singer-songwriter is about to become the youngest musician ever to play on the acoustic stage at Glastonbury.

Monty Taft, who has only just turned 17, will play two sets at the sell-out festival at Worthy Farm on the Friday and Saturday.

Monty has been getting lots of attention having had national airplay thanks to BBC Introducing and on Huw Stephens BBC Radio 1 show. But it was a UK promoter who saw him performing in Camden’s Barfly in London that set him on the road to Glasto.

Monty said: "To be playing at Glastonbury this year is absolutely insane and it still seems surreal just the idea of it! So yeah, you could say I am more than excited and feeling hugely honoured to be playing at a world renowned top festival.

"I’ve never been to Glastonbury before and am really looking forward to the experience everyone raves about so much. This opportunity came about when my song "These Walls" was played on Radio 1 and so was noticed by Paul who runs the acoustic stage at Glastonbury. He came to a gig I played in Camden and so he emailed me a couple months later wondering if I was interested in performing!

"I’ll be playing two sets whilst there one on the Friday and one on the Saturday. I will be playing all my own material. I've recently been writing a lot in London with co-writers and so I have some great new material to work with which I’m very excited to perform. After this I’ve still got some other festivals I'll be playing at over the summer which will be good fun!"

The big festival kicks off on Wednesday 22 June and if you’ve managed to get tickets for the big gig you can see Monty at 12.45 pm on Friday 24 June and at 12 pm on Saturday 25 June.

You can watch Monty performing below and you can catch him on stage at Folklore this Sunday before he heads off to Glasto.
