When she found herself unexpectedly back in the island due to covid, a local director decided to use the time to broaden her creative horizons - through reuniting with a childhood friend.
Express has been speaking to local creatives about their favourite projects they have worked on in 2021. For the first in the series, we caught up with Lucy Abraham...
Having caught the theatre bug at an early age, Lucy spent six years teaching junior drama at Jersey Arts Centre. That's where she got her first opportunity to direct and since then she has never looked back.

Whilst studying at Central Saint Martins, she created experimental multimedia live performances, and graduated with a first-class degree in Performance Design and Practice in 2019.
When the pandemic struck, she returned to the island, which opened up numerous creative possibilities, ranging from a documentary about farmers who talk Jèrriais to a short comedy film shot under a wedding party table.

But her favourite was working on videos with her childhood friend, musician Rebecca Lewis, who had also returned to Jersey due to covid. Working together was something they had always wanted to do without ever finding the time.
Looking back on the experience, Lucy says working on the final instalment of the collection of music videos with Rebecca Le Montais and Will Jack Robinson was one of her favourite projects this year.

"The reason I loved this project is because it felt like the first piece I have worked on to date that was moving towards the kind of work I hope to direct in the future," Lucy said.
"The project meant a great deal to me because I was able to work with two very close friends and by this point we had built a collective of wonderful Jersey-based people who all came on as crew.
"I am endlessly grateful to ArtHouse Jersey for supporting us and to the creative community we made in doing this project for valuing my ideas and helping us make them happen."
