A 20-year-old man who was arrested at an illegal party at Grève de Lecq is claiming police brutality.
Appearing the Magistrate’s Court on Friday, Harry Edward Thomas Larcombe-Strong denied a charge of resisting arrest on 4 April at a property on Mont de Ste. Marie in St Mary.
Explaining why, his lawyer, Advocate David Steenson, said: “He was punched by a police officer, taken to ground and sprayed. In our submission, this is police brutality as opposed to resisting arrest.”
Mr Larcombe-Strong also denied stealing a wooden statue from the party. The prosecution offered no evidence to this charge and it was dismissed.
The case was adjourned for a hearing on 18 June, when a trial date will be set.
Mr Larcombe-Strong was bailed until then, with the conditions that he remains at his stated addresses and observes a 22:00 to 06:00 curfew.
Yesterday, the holder of the St. Mary party, Robert David Baker (21) was fined £750 for breaking covid gathering orders.
