Royal Court to hear allegations of Christmas indecent assaults

Friday 03 January 2020

The case against a 31-year-old man accused of a series of indecent assaults which allegedly took place on Christmas Day will be sent to Royal Court in February.

Adrian Florinel Dumitrache has been charged with three counts of sexual touching on a female without consent, one count of gross outrage on public decency and one count of illegal entry under the Sexual Offences Law.

He was brought to the Magistrate's Court this morning where he appeared before Assistant Magistrate Peter Harris.

Mr Dumitrache is accused of having illegally entered private premises in St. Helier "with the intention of committing a further offence" on 25 December 2019.

On the same occasion, the prosecution says he sexually touched a woman without her consent.

He also faces two further allegations of sexual touching without consent from two other women.

Mr Dumitrache has also been charged with, "...acting in a manner likely to cause an outrage of public decency by masturbating in a public place."

The Assistant Magistrate declined to deal with the case, following recommendations from Legal Adviser Carla Carvalho.

As a result, Mr Dumitrache will be committed to the Royal Court on 14 February.

Advocate George Pearce made a bail application on behalf of Mr Dumitrache but it was rejected.

Mr Dumitrache has been remanded in custody until his next court appearance on 24 January.
