A local heath food café with the mission of reinventing ‘fast food’ with a focus on organic and local produce is being put up for sale.

In a heartfelt statement, the owner and founder of Moo (which stands for ‘mostly organic origin’) announced that after almost eight years of business she is closing up shop at Liberty Wharf.

Katy Pierce posted the emotional announcement on the café’s Facebook page to let supporters know about what she described as the “seven year itch.”

But there’s hope that Moo might return in a different form, with Katy teasing: “This does NOT mean Moo will not exist anymore, just not in a physical form of brick and mortar but you will see us.”

One way that the brand could return, she says, is in the form of “a cook book with lots of Moo favourites.”

Calling for someone new to take over the café, Katy announced that it is “with a heavy heart” that she was putting her “beautiful business up for sale.”

Katy explains that the reasoning for the change comes down to a combination of factors including the difficulty of “opening a shop in a recession” and other struggles in her personal life, writing that she has “decided to let it go, take time to heal and go after opportunities away from Jersey.”

In her extensive post announcing the decision, Katy says that she has learned so much from her time running the health café: “At Moo we know getting addicted to the good stuff is a lifestyle, not a fad - we have loved this Jersey Journey.

“We’ve found that learning takes lots of mistakes. You learn more from failure than you do success and we learnt quickly about building bridges, fresh starts, early alarms and the power and energy that having a passion and vision brings.

“We have learnt not to be discouraged by naysayers, haters and imitators. Fear is scary but it is ultimately an illusion that can be used to drive you. Its best to embrace and welcome criticism if you are putting yourself out there and we at Moo will continue to do so.”

The café won’t be closing its doors immediately, but Katy made sure to thank her staff and customers for their support throughout her time at the helm of Moo.
