A 20-year-old man has been jailed for seven-and-a-half months for malicious damage, perverting the course of justice, and a string of motoring offences.
Jack Masterman was convicted of careless driving, failing to stop and report an accident, and driving an unroadworthy vehicle.
He was also fined £1,300 in the Magistrate’s Court and banned from driving for a year.
Masterman must pay £388 in compensation for the malicious damage and has had to forfeit his Yamaha motorcycle, which was involved in all the motoring offences.
Inspectors from Driver and Vehicle Standards (DVS) found 11 defects with the motorbike, including faulty brakes, a defective exhaust, leaking oil and inoperative brake lights.
Police reiterated their focus on targeting anti-social drivers and said they have secured several dangerous driving prosecutions, with some vehicles being seized and taken off the road.
