With concrete coastal defences a regular feature on Jersey’s coastline, it's not easy to forget that Jersey was one of the most heavily fortified islands in Europe. Now, a new documentary will be shedding light on the fortifications' darker past.
Set to air this Sunday on More 4, Nazi Megastructures will launch its third series with a Channel Islands-focused episode, ‘Hitler’s Island Megafortress’.
It’s set to explore how WWII German forces - the Channel Islands’ infamous occupiers from 1940 to 1945 – added to the already existing Civil and Napoleonic war fortifications with imposing structures of their own.

Investigations will include interconnected bunkers, gun emplacements, observation towers, strongpoints and tunnels that could withstand attack from either sea or air.
It’s the second documentary to take an interest in Jersey’s wartime past in recent weeks.
Last weekend saw former Bergerac star and historian John Nettles feature in a German documentary about the “little known” era.
