Neurodiversity campaigner stands for election in St. Saviour

Monday 25 April 2022

A digital entrepreneur, and advocate for diversity and inclusion, who hopes to create ‘greater alignment’ among political candidates, has announced he will be standing as an independent candidate for St. Saviour in June's General Election.

Jonathan Channing, who currently works as a Social Value Manager, says he is no stranger to ‘putting his neck above the parapet’ to hold Government departments to account.

As an autistic digital entrepreneur, and founder of Develop Autism, Mr Channing is an advocate for neurodiversity. He has also held various volunteer roles for local causes over the years.

Mr Channing is standing as an independent for St Saviour with his ‘AlignTowards Change’ manifesto in a bid to ‘create greater alignment amongst political candidates and focus on getting change over the line’.

“There are a number of new candidates I am aligned with and hope in due course this number will grow and there will have greater alignment amongst new political candidates,” he said.

The ‘AlignTowards’ manifesto spans three areas, titled sustainable future, vibrant economy and prosperous community.

In his current role, he identifies areas of social value in Jersey to deliver ‘impactful initiatives’ that are closely aligned to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.

He says he is ‘driven by a passion to effect change within society’ and works with clients locally and nationally to help them understand the value of employing and empowering neurodiverse individuals.

Mr Channing has held volunteer roles both at the leadership and committee level with several organisations including Jersey Chamber of Commerce, IoD Jersey, National Coding Week, Autism Jersey, Enable Jersey and NeuroDiversity Jersey.
