Nurses who've been on a career break can soon find out how to get back on the wards.
The Health department are running three sessions at the Hospital this month to help Islanders wanting to get back into nursing.
They are running their 'Return to Practice' course from January to June next year which involves 60 hours of theory and up to 300 hours on the job, supported by a mentor supervising them.
Head of Nursing and Midwifery Education for HSSD, Julie Mesny said: “We are very pleased to be able to offer the Return to Practice Programme, as it enables nurses to update their knowledge and skills in a safe environment and to re-register with the NMC.”
Anyone who's previously been registered with the national Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC), the professional body which oversees the work of nurses and midwives can go along to one of three sessions at the Hospital this month to find out more.
The first is next Thursday from 6 until 8 pm, the next is Tuesday 21 June from 10 am until 12 noon and the last is on Saturday 25 June from 10 am until 12 noon.
Chief Nurse Rose Naylor said: “We know there are a significant number of trained nurses in Jersey who left the profession for various reasons, notably family-related, but are now in a position to return to a career that is every bit as rewarding as the one they left.
“Offering Return to Practice is an important element of our nurse training programme, which also includes the pre-registration nursing degree course that has been run annually since 2013.”
