New eatery docks at the Harbour

A new £2 million restaurant is due to open at the harbour by the end of the year.

The investment by the publicly-owned Ports of Jersey has been signed off to start getting The Terminal GBJ ship-shape – the plan is for a new 250-seat eatery and food emporium opening at Elizabeth Harbour before Christmas.

The man running it will be local foodie Marcus Calvani who already co-owns La Cantina and The Jersey Royal Distillery Company. He plans to offer an all-day dining experience from breakfast to Sunday lunch and will be cooking up a variety of locally sourced ingredients.

He’ll have “Grab and Go” options for those with a boat to catch as well as indoor and outdoor play areas for families looking to stay a bit longer at the harbour.

Mr Calvani said: “Since returning home to Jersey after 12 years working in hospitality development in the USA, I have been looking for the right location to showcase my passion for casual, fun, family friendly dining. My dedication and passion towards local produce can be seen in my current companies, which are both part of Genuine Jersey.

“It is my intention to create a food and drink experience at ‘The Terminal GBJ’ that not only creates a gastro-tourism destination for visitors, but is also a place that locals can be proud of and frequent. As a husband and father of two young children, I’ve realised our need in Jersey for a destination designed with the entire family in mind. I am very excited about my partnership with Ports of Jersey and even more excited to welcome in due course people to The Terminal GBJ”.

Group Commercial Director at Ports of Jersey Myra Shacklady said: “It has long been our intention that any future catering offering at the Elizabeth Harbour must enhance the arrival and departure experience of our passengers but equally be a popular dining choice for residents, especially those with children, looking for somewhere to eat. We are confident we have found this thanks to the enthusiasm, creativity and international catering experience that Marcus and his team are bringing to this exciting new venture. And with many other great ideas in the pipeline we look forward to what we’re sure will be a great facility, bringing to an end a lot of uncertainty surrounding the future catering offering at St Helier Harbour.”

Invited guests will get a taste of what’s on offer tomorrow at the launch of Condor’s new fast ferry The Liberation.

Mr Calvani is opening a temporary ‘pop-up’ facility in the terminal, offering fresh juices, smoothies, coffee, ice creams, snacks, sandwiches and soups while the work is being carried out.
