Offender with "bad record" swerves jail for Christmas Day attack

Sunday 21 May 2023

A 22-year-old man with a "bad record of violence" has swerved a jail sentence for punching someone in the face on Christmas Day.

The Magistrate’s Court heard this week that Daniel Du Feu had a history of violent offences and had been out of prison on licence when he punched a man in the face, at 15:00 on 25 December last year.

Du Feu pleaded guilty to a single charge of assault.

The victim was left with a bruise on his cheek and Assistant Magistrate Peter Harris accepted that the incident was "minor".

However, he told Du Feu: "You have got a bad record of violence for a young man.

"Every time you are violent, even with a single punch, you are going to find police taking an extra interest in you."
