Olly Murs heading for Jersey

Monday 28 November 2016

X-Factor runner-up and chart toping pop star Olly Murs is headlining in Jersey in July.

The thirty-two-year-old singer is to be the star attraction at The Sure Big Gig in the Park 2017.

It’ll be a return visit for him. He also shared the top spot back in 2011.

The event’s now been running for eight years and in the past has attracted some of the biggest names in the music industry including Jess Glynne, JLS and Will Young.

As usual it’s being staged at Howard Davis Park. 2017’s event is on Saturday 15th July. In the past it’s attracted thousands of fans. Tickets for 2017’s event go on sale on Friday, and include a special family rate.

Since his appearance in X-Factor back in 2009 Olly has had hits with “Troublemaker”, “Heart Skips a Beat”, and “Dear Darling”. This year his album “24 HRS” became his fourth successive number one album, making him the most successful solo artist to emerge from X-Factor.

Event owner and organiser Caroline Strachan believes the event is particularly pleased about the way the event brings together the community: “Every year, Sure Big Gig in the Park aims to be at the pulse of pop culture and bring Island fans closer to the musicians and experiences they love… The charities we are supporting this year are ‘Help a Jersey Child’ and ‘Brighter Futures’."

Louise Burrows, Head of Marketing, at sponsors Sure, adds: “To be associated with one of the most successful charity music events in Jersey, that brings such big names to the Island is an absolute pleasure… It’ll be a great start for the school summer holidays and will once again bring some fantastic pop culture to our Island.”

More acts for the event are to be announced soon.
