Around one in three adults in Jersey are overweight and roughly one in five are obese, according to new data released by the Government today.
The information featured in a report by the Public Health team, whose key findings were:
"around half of adults in Jersey self-reported as "normal weight" (47%), while one third (32%) were overweight, and 18% were obese;
around one in four (22%) people had a waist measurement resulting in a very high cardio-vascular risk factor;
at year end 2021, there were 9,380 adults on the GP obesity register;
amongst children, one in four Reception-aged children were overweight or obese and one in three Year 6 were overweight;
in 2021, over two thirds (69%) of adults in Jersey had eaten less than the recommended five portions of fruit and vegetables per day;
the proportion of young people who ate 5 portions of fruit and vegetables decreased with age - from 38% in Year 4 to just 18% in Year 12;
around half (52%) of adults in Jersey reported meeting the recommended guidelines for physical activity; and
around four out of five young people were not meeting the UK NHS recommended levels for physical activity."
