Open studio art events return in June

Tuesday 11 March 2014

Skipton Open Studios will be back in June, bringing art into unusual places around the Island and showcasing the work of Jersey’s gifted artists.

Artists will be opening up their studios to the public and holding a taster exhibition at CCA Galleries in Hill Street, and the event will spread over three weeks rather than two.

Jersey artists Ian Rolls, Nick Romeril, Marc Medland, Nanette Regan and Lisa le Brocq will be opening their studio doors and this year’s exhibitions will be held in historic locations such as La Tour Carrée, Lewis’s Tower and the Frances Le Sueur Centre in St Ouen’s Bay, Morel Farm and Bellozanne Abbey.

The event will also introduce many new faces, including Jersey-born creative archaeologist and journalist, Christine Finn; Jooj duQuemin who will be driving her van-turned-camera obscura around the Island to take photographs; illustrator Lauren Radley; and Russian-born Yury Totoptsov - the Société Jersiaise Archisle International Photographer in Residence 2014.

Sasha Gibb, Visual Arts Co-ordinator at Jersey Arts Trust, said: “We are very excited about the variety of both artists and locations this year. Without giving too much away, we have artists collaborating together on site-specific work, international work that links the lost gardens of Jersey with New Jersey, USA, as well as artists sharing studios to support one another.”

The CCA Galleries exhibition and a celebration of art in the Royal Square will run from Friday 20 to Sunday 22 June, and the studio openings will take place over the following two weekends.

Skipton International managing director Jim Coupe said: “Skipton Open Studios is a fantastic event to showcase the wealth of artistic talent that Jersey can justifiably be proud of. Thanks to the hard work of Jersey Arts Trust it evolves and grows each year, to draw in a greater variety of artists, locations and partners to attract even more people to visit the studios.”
