Paw patrol! Lucky mutt escapes 50m cliff fall

Friday 16 February 2018

A pup stranded on a cliff after toppling 50m was successfully put back on the lead after a dramatic rope rescue by the Fire Service this morning.

The dog fell around 50 metres off a cliff face in St Brelade after escaping from her owner shortly before midday.

The owner alerted the Fire Service, who sent down six white watch rescuers with one fire engine and one specialist rescue unit with rope rescue equipment.

Following guidance from the dog’s owner, they got to work on retrieving the pup by lowering one firefighter to the dog. Once hauled up, she was supplied with oxygen and taken to a local vet for a check-up.

Following the rescue, the Fire Service issued a warning to pet owners: “We understand how precious your dogs are and it is vitally important that you keep them safe. If you are in a position where your dog can come to harm, please protect it in any way you can.

“If this means avoiding areas where they can be injured or simply popping them onto their lead then please do so.”
