Pedal power on the Waterfront

Monday 20 July 2015

Things are revving up for Battle of Flowers week when dozens of pedal cars will be racing round the new car park on the Waterfront.

Human power will be tested to the limits when the sounds and fury of road racing returns to St Helier for the 2015 Lions Club of Jersey Pedal Car Grand Prix on Sunday 9 August.

The organisers hope to see as many as 32 teams taking part in the big race in Les Jardins car park and raising money for local charities.

Each team is made up of a manager and five 'drivers' who will pedal one lap in a relay around the circuit specially designed by members of Jersey's Classic and Vintage Motor Racing Club. They'll pedal as fast as they can in the hope of making it into the semi-finals and ultimately the grand final when there are trophies and medals up for grabs for the best placed corporate team and the best placed team from a charity, club or association.

Organiser Lion Peter Tabb said: “Thanks to the generosity of Transport Minister Deputy Eddie Noel and the Transport and Technical Services Department making the new car park available, the day-long event, sponsored by ABNsAMRO Private Banking, takes place at the beginning of Battle of Flowers week.

“It will, as in previous years involve teams of five ‘drivers’ pedalling one lap each.”

It costs £100 per team to enter and you can find out more by contacting Peter Tabb on 07797 721275 or by email - pandttabb@localdial.com

The first race gets under starters orders at 10am.
