Parking in town just got tougher

There will be fewer places to park in Pier Road’s multi-storey for the next few months as refurbishment work gets underway, starting today.

But despite it being the start of the busy summer season with more cars on the road, Transport and Technical Services are confident there will be enough spaces to meet demand even when several floors are closed off at the same time.

For the next four weeks floors nine to 12 will be closed to the public so that TTS can work to waterproof the concrete floors, make some of the spaces bigger and spruce up the walls and stairwells.

Lighting and CCTV will also be replaced and so will the external safety fence panels surrounding each floor of the car park.

The ramps on the upper floors will be closed but the lifts and escalators will still be running to Fort Regent.

They’ll then work their way downwards closing off one or two floors at a time.
