Labrador killed in suspected car collision

Thursday 01 November 2018

A two-year-old Labrador died on a St. Clement road this morning, believed to have been hit by a car that didn't stop.

Police are looking for a driver who was on La Grande Route de la Côte and may have hit the black dog without realising.

Two-year-old Poppy was being walked on the beach and ran up the stairs onto the road in front of the Ambassador Hotel around 06:20.

She was found further up the road near la Rue du Pontlietaut some time later.

Police believe she was hit by a vehicle and sadly didn't survive.

While they have no details of the vehicle involved in the collision, they are appealing anyone who may have seen the incident or has information about the vehicle to get in touch.

In an appeal to islanders for information, Police said: "The driver of the vehicle may not even be aware that they hit the dog but we still need to speak with them. Please get in touch if you have any information that may help."

Fellow dog owners shared condolences with the owners on a post on the Jersey Dog Forum Facebook page.
