One of the oldest buildings still standing at the Airport will be demolished, if planning permission is approved.
Ports of Jersey has applied to knock down the old ‘Jersey Airlines’ hangar, which is the large structure to the north of the main car park, on your right as you drive into the Airport.
‘Hangar 4’, to give it its official title, was built in 1958, originally for the storage of aircraft.
The 74m long, 55m wide building was subsequently used as engineering base for several airlines, including Air UK and JEA, and is now used as an equipment store.
It is proposed that the hangar is brought down to its concrete base.
The demarcation between ‘landside’ and the secure ‘airside’ zones at the Airport currently runs through the hangar, so Ports proposed to erect a new fence when it is demolished and reposition the existing fence to the east.

The Airport Fire Service station to the north of the hangar will be retained.
In order to store the equipment which is currently housed in the hangar, Ports is proposing siting two pre-fabricated modular units on Stand 14, which is off the south-east corner of the John Le Fondré departures’ hall and is currently used as an open-air equipment holding area.
Unlike the nearby 1937 building, 'Hangar 4' is not listed.
