Ports responds to concerns about “premium” Airport lounge

Monday 23 December 2024

Ports of Jersey has revealed further details about plans to renovate Jersey Airport – including a first-floor space with sea and runway views, and an “open to all” roof terrace – after islanders raised concerns about proposals to turn the free upstairs atrium into a “premium” paid-for lounge.

Ports last week confirmed that the transformed space will be operated by travel hospitality firm, No1 Lounges.

Access to the current upstairs lounge has already been restricted as work on the renovation begins.

But after islanders reacted negatively towards the removal of the atrium area, Ports issued further details about the long-term plan to renovate Jersey Airport’s departures and arrivals terminals.

The Airport operator confirmed plans to create a "space on the first floor with sea and runway views", an "open to all roof terrace", and a "fun play area for children".

The full statement said: "Ports of Jersey is at the start of a process to redevelop the airport terminal over the coming years, including a new duty free shop, a new restaurant and investment in new technology to enable our passengers to travel smoothly through Jersey Airport.

"We will create comfortable seating areas for passengers to relax in before they fly, including a space on the first floor with sea and runway views.

"In addition, we hope to create an ‘open to all’ roof terrace (subject to building and security approvals) between the old and new terminal buildings, a fun play area for children, as well as a quieter area that will provide a calm environment for passengers seeking somewhere peaceful away from the hustle and bustle of the airport.

"Finally, we are excited to develop an improved arrivals experience and welcome to Jersey for our passengers.

"We look forward to sharing more information in the new year as we finalise the designs for Jersey Airport."
