A rapist who tried to destroy evidence of his actions after realising he had been captured on CCTV has been sentenced to nine-and-a-half years' imprisonment.
Sentenced in the Royal Court today after admitting rape and sexual touching without consent, Fabio Manuel De Jesus Nunes (39) was also placed on the Sex Offenders Register for 15 years and has been recommended for deportation to Madeira upon his release.
Crown Advocate Lauren Hallam, prosecuting, said the victim was unconscious when Nunes engaged in sexual activity with her.
The Royal Court also heard how the incident was captured on CCTV, which De Jesus Nunes discovered. He then tried to unplug the recording device in an attempt to destroy the evidence.
While Advocate Rui Tremoceiro, defending, asked for six years' imprisonment, the Crown Advocate's suggestion of nine-and-a-half was accepted by the court.
The Bailiff – sitting with Jurat Elizabeth Dulake, Steven Austin-Vautier, Gareth Hughes, Alison Opferman and Michael Entwistle – told Nunes that it was "clear" his victim could not consent at the time.

“You were fully aware of what you were doing and there was something chillingly manipulative about it," Sir Timothy Le Cocq said.
Following today's sentencing, Detective Inspector Christina Maclennan from the Criminal Investigation Department applauded the victim's courage in coming forward to report what had happened, as well as her bravery throughout the whole judicial process.
"We are committed to investigating and prosecuting all sexual offenders and encourage anyone who has been the victim of a crime of this nature to report to police or other agencies below who are in a position to offer support and guidance through all stages of the criminal justice process," she added.
