The key questions on Health bosses' departures that need answering

Friday 17 March 2023

The government has declined to provide any further detail on the circumstances, reasoning or negotiations surrounding the sudden departure of Jersey's Director General of Health and the Chief Nurse - here are the questions that need answering.

Bailiwick Express and the JEP first asked whether Caroline Landon and Rose Naylor had left their posts last week.

At 16:00 yesterday, the government issued a statement - embargoed until 16:15 - confirming that the two senior officials had informed the Health Minister of their intention to leave their positions on 31 March.

Both media asked the government a series of questions regarding the departures, but were told there would not be a response until interim arrangements had been put in place.

Those questions were:

  • On what date did Caroline Landon and Rose Naylor inform the Health Minister of their intention to resign? On what date were resignation letter(s) received?

  • What notice period did Caroline Landon and Rose Naylor have? Has the government agreed to shorten this?

  • Are both currently at work? Will the pair be working until the end of the month?

  • Have either received severance payments in relation to their departure? If so, please state the value of these.

  • When will interim arrangements be confirmed?

  • Were Ms Landon and Ms Naylor's departures linked to the recent investigation into bullying within the health service? Will the government make a copy of the resulting report public?
