Triathlon challenge to net Mind Jersey £40,000

Tuesday 15 September 2020

RBC has upped the ante on its Super League Triathlon Community Challenge, saying that if participants hit 100,000km by September 20, they will double their donation to Mind Jersey to £40,000.

The new challenge asks islanders to collectively cover the 100,000km of distance through swimming, cycling running or walking.

The higher target comes after the initial 20,000km for £20,000 mark was reached within a week. This year, the community challenge has replaced the usual annual Super League Triathlon, which can't take place due to Covid-19 restrictions.

As well as the doubled target, the Bank and its partners have introduced other incentives for the companies and schools of those participating, including:

  • A virtual visit from a Super League athlete to a school.
  • A VIP Table for 10 at RBC Super League Triathlon 2021 for the business that makes the best push.
  • Signed SLT merchandise for those who rack up the most km.
  • Hapi and Big Maggys vouchers for those tagging #TheIslandBreak when showcasing their training.
  • Five fitness watches from JT for photos of participants who tag @SuperLeagueTriathlon and @JTSocial with the hashtag #WinAWearable.
  • Spot prizes for those submitting photos on the platform or using #RBCSLT20FOR20.

Islanders can sign up for the challenge at: https://challenges.superleaguetriathlon.com, with the bank emphasising that people select their school or company from the list when registering, as many are offering incentives to their staff as part of the challenge.

Mourant Jersey Managing Partner, Daniel Birtwistle, said: "We're really pleased to partner with SLT in encouraging everyone in the business community to get involved in this challenge that aims to get employees together to take part in clocking up kilometres, while promoting and embracing team spirit.

Daragh McDermott, Managing Director, JT, added: “Enabling people to successfully overcome challenges is at the very heart of RBC SLT Jersey, and given how 2020 has gone so far, we’ve never been more proud to support them in helping connect our community and bring people together in a new and exciting way. It has also been a year when our physical and mental health has come into sharp focus, and that makes this new challenge even more important."

Haydn Taylor, Managing Director of Ravenscroft in Jersey, said: “It’s obviously disappointing that it can’t happen as planned but the team has done a phenomenal job to create a community challenge which will bring islanders together. Our Ravenscroft team and sporting ambassadors will be getting involved and we are looking forward to hearing more from islanders who are going the extra mile.”
