Christmas may only just be over, but with presents unwrapped and dining done, some islanders' minds may have already turned to how to pack away the festive cheer – and there's a tree-mendous scheme in aid of a good cause that can help.
Registration has now opened for the 2024 edition of Jersey Hospice's Tree-cycling Scheme.
In return for a minimum donation of £15, a team of Jersey Hospice Care volunteers will pick up used Christmas trees from homes and businesses.
Those trees are then delivered to La Collette to be made into soil improvers for local farms and gardens.
First launched in 2005, the fundraiser has become a successful annual fundraiser for the palliative care charity, which collected 2,000 trees in 2023.
Scott Douglas, the charity's Events Officer, said: “Christmas tree collections always a fantastic fundraising event to start the year.
"It’s a hassle-free way for people to make sure their tree is properly recycled, reduce car emissions, and help raise valuable funds for Hospice."

"We are so grateful to all our volunteers and supporters, including individuals and businesses, who continue to support us with the collection service and help make it possible," he continued, adding a "big thank you" to key sponsor Rathbones.
"...Without their support, this service wouldn’t be possible.”
"Jersey Hospice Care provide an incredibly important service to our community and we’re proud to support their Christmas Tree collection and recycling scheme over the coming years," said Jonathan Giles, the finance firm's Managing Director.
"We are looking forward to a festive period filled with both goodwill and some successful New Year recycling.”
Timings for the collections are as follows:
Locations in St Helier: Wednesday 8 and Thursday 9 January
Out-of-town households and businesses: Saturday 11 and Sunday 12 January
Registration is online and can be done so by clicking HERE. Businesses are asked to register online by midnight on Sunday 5 January and households by 09:00 on Monday 6 January.
Organisers are also looking for volunteers with vans to help collect and transport Christmas trees. Those interested can sign up by emailing fundraising@jerseyhospicecare.com.
