The wait is over for hundreds of teenagers who have picked up their GCSE results this morning.
The results show teenagers here have got better grades than students in the UK and it looks like the girls could be top of the class.
Education say that nearly 77% of GCSEs taken here were passed with grades A* to C, compared to 66.6% in England and the number of A* and A grades is up on last year from 28% to 29.5%, significantly higher than 20.3% in England.
Jersey College for Girls are celebrating the highest marks in the school's history and Beaulieu Convent School say they've had 100% success with girls getting five or more GCSEs, including Maths and English.
Jersey College for Girl's Principal Carl Howarth said: "Our students have worked so hard and have achieved the highest results in the College’s history. 66% of all grades were A* or A with 70% of all our students achieving 5 or more A* or A grades and 100% of all students achieving 5 A*-C including English and Maths.
"Once again our students have demonstrated that with hard work, good teaching and aspiration, nothing is impossible. However, whilst these headline figures are very pleasing they don’t reveal the many individual successes. It is wonderful to see students who have aspired and worked so hard to significantly outperform their targets based on their CATs data. This positive difference is the value that they, their teachers, their families and the College as a whole have added to their education and we are so proud of them. I would like to thank their teachers and their parents for all the help and care they have given along the way."
Beaulieu has seen some very impressive results too with over a third of examinations taken awarded A* or A grades and numerous exceptional individual performances.
Beaulieu’s Headmaster Chris Beirne said: "As an academically non-selective school, we strive to help every child in our care reach their full potential, wherever their area of interest may lie. Today’s set of GCSE results build on the success we enjoyed last week with our A Levels. A number of our students secured A* or A grades in all their subjects and the 100% of students achieving five or more GCSEs, including English and Maths, result was particularly pleasing.
"We are delighted for the students who have excelled this year and we are extremely proud of their achievements."
Education Minister Rod Bryans said: "Our students, parents and schools should be very pleased with these results. There is no doubt the hard work of the students, the fine work of the teachers and the heartfelt support of the parents have deeply contributed to these results. They can now contemplate their future with real confidence. Well done to all involved.”
The Education Department will be producing a detailed report on island wide GCSE performance later in the year once appeals and re-marks have been completed.
A total of 988 students sat a total of 8985 GCSE examinations in the Island and these figures include GCSE examinations taken in all Jersey secondary schools.
