A road outside St. Luke's Primary School is to be closed to traffic for most of the day for a month as part of a Government scheme to encourage children to walk to school and improve air quality in the area.
Elizabeth Street will close during the day between 24 April and 26 May as part of the Government's 'School Street' scheme.
A 'School Street' is a road, or section of a road, that becomes closed to vehicles during school drop off and pick-up times, creating a pedestrian and cycle-only zone.
After a one-day trial road closure on 29 June last year received positive feedback from parents, the Government of Jersey and St. Luke's Primary School, together with the Parish of St. Saviour, are piloting the island's first 'School Street' next month.

The Government said the key aim of the scheme is to make the road a safer environment for children to arrive and leave the school.
The Department of Infrastructure, Housing and Environment hopes that fewer motor vehicles around the school gate will promote healthier and active travel, improve air quality and will provide a "calmer and more pleasant" environment.
The road will close between 07:30 and 09:30, as well as between 14:30 and 16:30.
All through traffic will be prohibited, residents living along the road and the emergency services will have access "where appropriate" and only if accompanied by a steward.
Stakeholders and residents who live on Elizabeth Street have been written to about the pilot scheme.
