Security stepped up at Big Gig following terror concerns

Sunday 09 July 2017

Visitors to this year’s Big Gig in the Park will be subject to “strict” search procedures after a number of terror attacks in the UK this summer.

In May, a suicide bomber killed 22 Ariana Grande fans following a concert in Manchester. Little over a week later, a band of terrorists went on a killing spree in the streets around London Bridge, leaving eight dead and nearly 50 injured.

Organisers of the annual Big Gig, which will take place on the 14 and 15 of July, have since consulted with both Jersey-based and UK Police and security enforcement officials “at the very highest level” in the build-up to the music event.

The perimeter, arena, backstage and offsite area will now be “robustly controlled” by States and Honorary Police, as well as UK security experts.

“The security team working on our event know the site inside out and have been working with us for many years. Your enjoyment and safety is paramount,” a spokesperson said

Those joining the event to see the likes of Holly Johnson and Olly Murs during the weekend-long pop fest will also undergo thorough searches on entry, which organisers have warned, “…may cause some slight delays on entering.”

Big Gig-gers have since been advised to, “only bring in essentials and not large bags” to help ease the process and ensure a “swift entry.”

For those with concerns or questions during the event, help will be at hand, with security and volunteers always, “…happy to help.”
