The main road was closed between Five Oaks and the junction with Rue du Trot, near Midland Stores.
Elise Schofield, who works at nearby riding centre Happy Hooves, said: "While at work we heard the screeching of breaks being applied which caught our attention, then followed by any almighty bang, seconds later loads of shouting and screaming.
"Then the sirens of many emergency services. The fire didn’t break out till a good five minutes at least to which we could just see flumes of black smoke billowing over the houses near by."

A dog walker who was also in the area at the time of the collision described hearing a "loud bang" before the blaze broke out.
"...We had just finished our round and were dropping the dogs home. The Emergency Services were there fast and [a nearby] school bus was emptied," she explained.
"All the kids were screaming and there was just so much black smoke.
"We were quickly diverted by a few civilians along another route."
