Seven arrested as teen death investigation continues

Sunday 16 February 2020

Seven people have now been arrested - one of whom was due to appear in court this morning - and cash and drugs seized from a number of properties, as the Police's "fast-moving" investigation into the sudden death of a teenager this weekend continues.

The 19-year-old passed away in St. Lawrence in the early hours of Saturday morning (15 February) after suspected MDMA use, while three males were sent to hospital, believed to be suffering the effects of the Class A drug.

Police opened a probe into the teen's death shortly after, with four people - three males and a female aged between 17 and 26 - arrested on Saturday in relation to drugs supply offences, and a number of homes raided. Drugs and cash were seized from the properties.

The group were later released on police bail pending further investigation.

Officers said they secured a further warrant to search a property in St. Helier shortly before midnight, leading to the seizure of cash and drugs.

20-year-old Rorey Allo was arrested at the time, and charged with two counts of possession with intent to supply Class A drugs, though the alleged offence is not understood to be directly related to the 19-year-old's death.

Mr Allo was due to appear in the Magistrate's Court this morning.

Then on Sunday two more men - aged 18 and 31 - were on suspicion of related drug offences, bringing the total number of arrests to seven.

In a statement, Police said: "This remains a dynamic and fast-moving investigation. Detectives continue to work hard in order to secure evidence and to ensure the ongoing safety of our island community.

"We reinforce the joint public Health message issued yesterday and warning against the consumption of MDMA – anyone feeling unwell who has taken drugs should seek immediate medical assistance. There have been no associated admissions to the hospital overnight."

Meanwhile, the three individuals admitted to hospital have since been discharged. Police described them as "fit and well".

Family Liaison workers are continuing to support the family of the 19-year-old, whose identity is expected to be released this morning.
