Man jailed for grabbing and biting teenage girl in park

Wednesday 27 November 2024

A man who approached a teenage girl in a public park before grabbing her, biting her and attempting to kiss her has been jailed – and is now facing deportation.

Isaac Njuguna Mukuru (40) was today sentenced to six months in prison by Jersey’s Magistrate's Court after pleading guilty to sexual touching of a young woman without consent on 8 November.

The Magistrate's Court heard that Mukuru didn't know his victim and tried to engage her in conversation before the sexual attack.

After she told a relative what had happened shortly after, police were immediately called and Mukuru was arrested nearby.

Detective Sergeant Alasdair Castle praised the "courage" of the young victim in coming forward and for "having the confidence in us", which he said "enabled us to achieve the right outcome in this case".

"We wish to reassure all victims of crime that we understand the difficulties and concerns in reporting these types of offences," he added.

"However, we will ensure they are supported throughout the criminal justice process and will work tirelessly in bringing sexual offenders to justice."

Mukuru was also placed on the Sex Offenders Register for five years and has been recommended for deportation on his release from prison.
