He normally spends his time comforting residents of St Ewolds residential home - but next week, one ‘hot dog' from Jersey will be hoping to win big in a major national competition.
Sausage, a Staffordshire Bull Terrier, and his owner Angie Seedhouse, are aiming to cut the mustard at Crufts by winning the HiLife 'Pets as Therapy' Dog of the Year 2017 competition.
His adventures as a registered PAT dog, take Sausage to St. Ewolds residential home on a weekly basis where he works with residents that have a variety of difficulties.
Angie said: “The residents who Sausage visits at the care home all have different needs, he decides how long to stay with each person and has great empathy for all of them. If he senses that they are having a bad week or have been unwell, he spends more time with them.
“One lady who is 102-years-old, loves it when he does the ‘Sausage roll’, and after a little scratch on the head, he does it.”
Sausage, pictured with his owner Angie Seedhouse, has been a Pets as Therapy dog for four years.
Angie said she has always known that Sausage was special:
“We are so proud of our boy, it is amazing to see him being recognised for the difference he makes, we always knew he was special. Everyone is thrilled that he has made it to the final and they are eager to see how he gets on. He is a great ambassador for the breed and has a real love for people.”
The title for this years’ PAT dog is sponsored by HiLife, and will be awarded at Crufts next Friday.
Sausage and the other five finalists will parade around the show arena soaking up the glory as their achievements are revealed to the crowd, before the top dog is announced as the winner of a cheque for £500 and a three-month supply of HiLife goodies.
In the meantime, Sausage will crossing his paws that he will have a sizzling time at the awards next week.
