The sky's not the limit for Les Amis resident

Les Amis resident Val Gavey (pictured) and employee Lauren Cornish raised £800 for the charity by skydiving from a plane over Jersey.

This was Val's fifth charity skydive, having also jumped for Jersey Hospice, JSPCA, Riding for the Disabled and Jersey Rescue Dogs.

The skydive launched the charity's new Les Amis Legend campaign which awards islanders who raise £1,000 in one year for the charity. Donations are welcome towards Val and Lauren's efforts so that they can achieve full Les Amis 'Legend' status.

Commenting on her skydive, Val said: "I love showing that anything everyone else can do, we can do at Les Amis.”

Val jumped with her cuddly toy dog, Peter, who has accompanied her on all of her skydives.

Karina Le Boustouller, Val’s Support Worker, said: “I’m so proud of my amazing Val! She is incredibly brave. I am never worried about her because she is so unfazed and ready for any challenge she puts her mind too. I hope that her skydive encourages more people to become Les Amis Legends.” 

Val was joined by Les Amis' General and HR Administrator Lauren Cornish, who despite twisting her ankle said she had an excellent time: “The skydive was absolutely amazing. I am so glad I had the opportunity to jump out of the plane with Val to raise awareness of the Les Amis Legend Campaign. She proves every day that disability is not an inability."

Lauren added: "To become a Les Amis Legend you need to raise £1,000 in one year. Combined Val and I have almost raised £800, which is absolutely fantastic. Donations are still welcome though, so if you would like to push us to the £1,000 mark to become a Les Amis Legend, we would be incredibly grateful.”
