Specialist search dogs unable to find missing islander

Thursday 23 March 2023

Two UK police dogs specially trained to locate bodies and human remains have left the island after failing to find a 51-year-old man who has been missing for more than a month.

Thomas Frost was last seen leaving his parents’ house at L’Etacq on the night of Saturday 11 February. He is believed to have been barefoot at the time.

The victim-recovery dogs – also known as cadaver dogs – arrived with their handlers from Avon and Somerset Police on Friday and searched eight key areas over the weekend.

These included the woods at Grève de Lecq and around Val de la Mare reservoir, which specialist divers have also searched as well as other bodies of water.

The initial search parameter was extended in certain areas up to 2km to include some additional wooded areas that had not featured within the initial 750m search radius.

Police confirmed yesterday afternoon that, despite extensive searches, the dogs, which had been requested as part of the mutual-aid agreement, were unable to find Mr Frost and returned to the UK on Monday.

Anyone with information is being asked to phone the Police on 612612, selecting option 2, option 4.
