Sports Association for the Disabled receives £7,000 donation

Sunday 03 December 2017

Canaccord Genuity Wealth Management have donated £7,000 to the Jersey Sports Association for the Disabled (JSAD), which was raised through the Corporate Cup lunchtime race series and Jersey Half Marathon.

JSAD is a charitable organisation whose primary purpose is to provide support and encouragement to residents with a disability who wish to take part in sport, regardless of their age or disability.

The donation will be equally shared across all of JSAD’s current activities and should help the association in supporting people with a disability to enjoy sport on the island. It will also enable more competitive individuals to travel off-island to get the right level of training and support they need in order to improve within their favourite sport.

Paul Patterson, Chairman of JSAD, said: “JSAD are absolutely delighted with this fantastic donation and are extremely grateful to Canaccord Genuity Wealth Management and Run Jersey Events for choosing us as the recipient charity for both events. Our members love the opportunity to get involved with the events on a volunteer basis, through manning the water stations and cheering on the runners along the course to clapping them across the finish line.

"We have received some lovely feedback from the runners on the support they receive from our members at the events, which helps make the experience and opportunity even more special for us.”

Grahame Lovett, Chief Executive Offshore at Canaccord Genuity Wealth Management, also commented: “Canaccord Genuity Wealth Management have been huge supporters of JSAD over the years and were delighted to once again support them, alongside Digby Ellis-Brecknell of Run Jersey Events, with a cheque for £7,000. The donation from the monies raised from the Corporate Cup and Half Marathon will enable JSAD to make a bigger difference for their members, from the high-flying competitors right through to the profoundly disabled members who show great courage and conviction in just getting to the starting line.

"As an organisation committed to encouraging health and wellbeing both within the workplace and local community, we want to tell people that anyone can get involved with sport – it’s about having a #cando attitude, and all the runners who take part, as well as JSAD and their members, certainly have this!"
