Organisers of the Jersey Offshore Powerboat Festival which was staged in St Aubin's Bay this weekend say the event's been a great success.
It's been a number of years since Islanders have been able to get up close and watch the sport, and this weekend's event was an attempt to gauge public opinion and to perhaps revive powerboating in local waters.
The circular course took competitors across St Aubin's Bay from west to east starting at Belcroute Bay and heading towards Elizabeth Castle, before heading towards the seawalll at First Tower, and then hugging the coastline westward. With the high tide the boats were able to come relatively close to shore and provided a spectacular site for onlookers.
There were three classes. The winner in Class U - was Diablo Racing - David Corbet and Kerry Le Parourel. In Class 3 - Racing Green - Richard Mason and Andy Cousins. And in Class 2 - Who Dares Swims - Graham Lawton (see interview below) and Darren Douthwaite.
