St. George's Preparatory School has announced the retirement of "transformative" Headteacher Cormac Timothy, who is set to step down from the top job at the end of this academic year.
Following the announcement, Mr Timothy said that "it's been a privilege to be part of [St. George's] for the past decade".
"As I make the difficult and heartfelt decision to retire, I carry with me the memories of countless students who have grown, learned and thrived here," he added.
The school's Board will now begin their search for Mr Timothy's successor to start in time for the beginning of the next academic year in September 2024.
Mr Timothy continued: "While this announcement may come as a surprise to the school community, I want to assure everyone that my commitment to our school in this academic year remains unwavering.
"I'm confident that my successor will continue to uphold the legacy of excellence we've built together for the benefit of the students, their families and our staff."
Paul James, Chair of the Board at the preparatory school said: “Cormac Timothy's tenure as Headteacher has been nothing short of transformative.
"His visionary leadership, dedication to our students and contributions to the broader community are deeply appreciated.
“As we embark on the search for a new Headteacher, we are resolute in our commitment to finding a leader who can continue the exceptional legacy that Cormac has built over the years.
"The Board extends its deepest gratitude to [him] for his outstanding impact on our school and looks forward to celebrating his contributions and achievements in the coming year".
Mr James continued: “Throughout this transitional period, St George’s Preparatory School is dedicated to keeping its community informed about the progress of the search for its new Headteacher.
"Meanwhile, our primary focus is on opening the school gates and warmly welcoming back all our students, parents, and staff as we embark on the new school year.”
