New all-weather tennis courts in St Saviour have been officially opened in time for a big family tournament this weekend.
The six courts at Grainville Tennis Club – set up almost 40 years ago - were given a makeover as part of the Fit for the Future sport strategy.
Assistant Sport’s Minister Connètable Steve Pallett said: “I am impressed by the range of activities offered by the club, and by the age range of the players trying out the new courts – from very young children to senior citizens. The club president, Pam Warr, deserves a vote of thanks for her tireless efforts over several years to help ensure the refurbishment took place. This is another community sports facility the Island can be proud of.”
Mrs Warr said: “We pride ourselves on offering a range of tennis activities as well as social events for people of all ages and standards, and that our fees are very reasonable. This is a popular thriving club and we are grateful to ESC for investing in the facilities.”
Players’ representative Anne Southern said: “Members and other committee members are grateful to Pam for her hard work and dedication as well as her determination to see the club continue and improve. The refurbishment work and new surfaces mean we are well placed for a successful future.”
The Club, affiliated to the Lawn Tennis Association, is now game for a junior family tournament for parents and children on Saturday afternoon.
