Storm Éowyn could cause localised flooding

Saturday 25 January 2025

Storm Éowyn could bring heavy rain to the island this weekend which may cause localised flooding, according to Jersey Met.

Winds in the Channel Islands were expected to peak on yesterday morning as the centre of the storm crossed Ireland.

In a statement, the Government said: "Jersey Met is forecasting the potential for persistent rain, heavy at times from early morning on Friday and again on Sunday into Monday, which may cause localised flooding around the island.

"While not unusual for this time of year, high winds reaching up to gale force eight could mean trees and debris on the roads.

"The exact location of the heaviest rain is uncertain, but it will be over or close to the Channel Islands."

The Infrastructure and Environment Department cleared drains on Thursday in preparation.

The Government, Jersey Met, Andium Homes and parish authorities are monitoring the situation.

Jersey is expected to escape the worst of Storm Éowyn which has led to red warnings for Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland as it batters the British Isles, with gusts over 100mph recorded.

Flood advice can be found on the Government of Jersey website.
