Dental work on a dinosaur caused blaze near Tamba Park

It's believed that a large fire near greenhouses next to Tamba Park broke out due to a spark from a welder fixing a dinosaur’s tooth. The fire service say the blaze is now under control.

Tamba Park owner Jonathan Ruff told Express that the blaze was the result of a “domino effect” as the spark reached nearby equipment and then the roof of the building.

He confirmed that the amusement park had since been evacuated and that there were no injuries involved.

Three fire engines and a water carrier were sent to the scene, with six firefighters using three jets to handle the fire, which spread to some of the nearby hedges.

They said that the incident involved plastic, vehicles and gas cylinders.

A thick black plume of smoke has since been spotted from St Aubin’s Bay, as well as over St Brelade and as far as the Rugby Club in St Peter.

Ports of Jersey have confirmed, however, that flights will continue as normal despite the smoke.

Honorary Police have said that Six Roads and Rue de La Frontiere has been closed, and are urging islanders to avoid the area.

Liberty Bus Route 7 has also been affected. The bus, which normally provides access to Tamba Park, will instead continue via Glencoe on its outward and return journeys.
