Teacher goes back to school as head

A Jersey-born teacher who started his career at Haute Vallée School will go back there in September as its new head.

David Roworth (49) has been appointed to take over from Caryl Lewis, who has been at the St Helier school for three years.

The Education department confirmed the news on Friday, and Mr Roworth said that he was delighted to have got the job.

He said: “I am thrilled to be returning to Haute Vallée, having worked there previously for nine years, and am relishing the challenge of becoming the next head teacher of a school that has so much potential.”

He is the second Jersey-born headteacher to be appointed to a school in the last few months – the Education department have only recently announced that Nick Falle, a former Hautlieu student, will take over as headteacher there in September.

Mr Roworth began his teaching career in 1993 as a maths teacher at D’Hautree School and transferred to Haute Vallée as Head of Maths when it opened in 1998, before moving on to Grainville and Le Rocquier as deputy head.

Director of Education Mario Lundy said: “Mr Roworth has gained a wide range of experience in Jersey’s 11-16 secondary schools where he has built a strong track record. I am confident he will be an excellent head teacher and would like to congratulate him on his appointment.”
