Teen’s death becomes ‘cautionary tale’ in court

A Magistrate has warned a young woman admitting to two drugs charges that her actions are “extra serious” following a teenager's death last weekend.

Macy Madelaine Sheehan (18) yesterday appeared in the Magistrate’s Court where she pleaded ‘guilty’ to two possession charges relating to MDMA and cannabis.

Both offences occurred on 22 October last year.

Advocate Francesca Pinel represented the teenage defendant. 

During the short hearing, the judge remarked upon the recent drugs-related death of 19-year-old James Le Bourgeois.

Addressing Sheehan directly, Assistant Magistrate Peter Harris said: “Any drugs matter is a serious matter, especially given the involvement of MDMA [and] given the tragic events of last weekend; extra serious perhaps.”

The case was adjourned so that the Probation Service could prepare a background report into the young woman’s circumstances. 

It will return to court on 19 March this year.
